PC shipments on the rise

Global - Global shipments for PC units grew by 14.5% in the second quarter of this year over 2007 and look set to record a 12.5% growth for the full year, said researcher iSuppli.

For the second quarter, the total shipment figures for PC units were at 70.2 million, an increase of 8.9 million units from the same quarter last year.

Matthew Wilkins, principal analyst of computer platforms for iSuppli said, "PC shipments came in higher than forecast."

Wilkins continues, "iSuppli maintains its enthusiasm for the PC market in 2008, despite the challenging conditions. The company's latest forecast for the 2008 PC market estimates unit growth of 12.5%," he said.

Hewlett-Packard (HP) announced a second-quarter PC shipments of 13.4 million units to maintain their number one ranking in the industry worldwide. HP currently holds 19.1% of the market share. The runner-up was Dell, shipping 11.2 million units for 16% of market share while Acer came in third, with 6.6 million units shipped and 9.5% share of the PC market.
