UPS hires to bolster China's biz

In a bid to strengthen its supply chain and healthcare practices in China and around Asia, UPS has appointed Bernard Jiang to the role of supply chain and healthcare logistics director. In his position, Jiang will be in charge of warehousing, supplier and ground freight management and the management of UPS China's network. He will also lead the supply chain solutions, development and implementations teams in the country. He will report to Craig Foster, senior vice president of supply chain and healthcare logistics in Asia Pacific.

Sembcorp's Jurong bags rig contract

Sembcorp Marine's Jurong Shipyard unit has secured a US$135 million (SG$168.6 million) contract from US-based drilling company Diamond Offshore for its Ocean Apex project. The contract sees Jurong delivering the rig for the second quarter of 2014, adding capacity to Diamond Offshore's deep water fleet. The rig, called Ocean Apex, will be able to operate in waters 6,000-feet deep.

BASF sets up basecoat facility

BASF Shanghai Coatings Company will be investing in a new basecoat plant at the Shanghai Chemical Industry Park in China. Catering to the local production capacity for basecoat, the plant is part of the company's strategy to strengthen its position as a leading coatings supplier to the local automotive industry. Production is expected to commence in the first half of 2014.

Tiger completes SEAir's 40% stake buyout

Tiger Airways Holdings has completed the acquisition of a 40% stake in Philippines-based Southeast Asian Airlines (SEAir). With the investment, Tiger will support the working capital needs of the airline with shareholder loans of up to US$40 million (SG$50 million). Additionally, plans to add more planes to SEAir's fleet are in the pipeline. Both airlines had entered a sale and purchase agreement in June this year.
