UPS   APPOINTMENTS   SINGAPORE

Singapore - Greg Carstens has been appointed the managing director of Singapore operations at UPS.

Carstens has spent three years heading the managing the operations of UPS Thailand and played an initial role overseeing UPS' humanitarian relief efforts in Myanmar following the cyclone disaster of 2008.

Craig Foster, South District senior VP of UPS Asia Pacific says, "We will draw on [Carstens]' extensive experience in Asia to further develop our business in Singapore, which is a key strategic market for UPS."

Carstens will be based in Singapore and will oversee all aspects of the office's operations, which includes marketing, business development, international trade services, industrial engineering, human resources, customer service, security, finance & accounting, supply chain solutions, and ocean, air and ground operations.

His career took off in 1981 in Sydney where he worked for a small freight forwarding company. He held various positions in the industry and became the operations manager for the service agent that UPS was using at the time in New Zealand.

Carstens later joined UPS Australia as operations supervisor and was promoted to the role of brokerage manager and later operations manager.

In 1999, he headed UPS operations in New Zealand and subsequently served as general manager of UPS Vietnam for two years.
