Emirates bullish through Dubai crisis
EMIRATES AIRLINES AIRBUS BOEING
Global - Emirates Airline said the crisis afflicting Dubai will not have a significant impact on profit or disrupt plane orders with Boeing and Airbus.
Emirates vice chairman Maurice Flanagan said net income in the second-half ending March 31 will surpass the US$205 million posted in the first six months and that earnings should reach about US$1 billion next year.
Flanagan was also quoted in media reports as saying the airline had no plans to cancel plane orders, but industry watchers are doubtful of the airline's ability to finance the backlog of 58 Airbus A380 superjumbos, 50 A350s and a number of Boeing 777s.
Airbus also dismissed worries that its major customer Emirates would back out from its plane orders. "We have faith in Dubai and we believe in their world-class airline," CEO John Leahy said. "They are current in all their contractual obligations with us and we are confident that they will remain so."
