Airbus revises A380 delivery plan
AIRBUS A380 SINGAPORE AIRLINES
Global - Airbus may deliver 13 A380 superjumbos this year instead of the 14 planned previously following talks with Singapore Airlines, Airbus parent company EADS said.
"We are discussing with Singapore Airlines the possibility of delivering the last aircraft [from the 2009 delivery schedule] in January next year," EADS CEO Louis Gallois told Reuters.
"If they take it in January instead of December then we will deliver 13 in 2009." The number is one less than the 14 planned for delivery this year.
The announcement comes on the heels of a recent hiccup between Singapore Airlines and Airbus, where a passenger-carrying Singapore Airlines A380 had to make a turnaround back to Paris after engine problems were discovered.
Airbus had previously been forced to pay penalties to airlines after falling two years behind it production schedule for the A380. It has delivered five planes between January and August.
